The Council of Public Prosecutors of Macedonia has officially received the report on the current status of the Head of the Special Public Prosecution (SPO) Katica Janeva, who was arrested on Wednesday after the Public prosecution for Organised Crime (PPOC) added her to the list of suspects in the “Racketeering” case. According to the regulations, the president of the Council of Public Prosecutors Kole Sterijev is to assemble the council in order to determine whether Janeva acted against the laws and demand her official dismissal from the Parliament of Macedonia. The Council of Public Prosecutors is also to decide about the appointment of an acting SPO Head if Janeva is dismissed from the position. Several media reported that one of the possible choices for Janeva’s replacement is SPO Prosecutor Lile Stefanova, but she denied the claims. “I have no intention to apply or run for the top position in SPO,” Stefanova said, adding that it is important for the Parliament to adopt the new Law on public Prosecution sooner so that SPO is integrated into the Basic Public Prosecution as its new department and it can take over the cases currently processed by SPO and resolve them properly.
