Draft Law on Census Adopted by European Affairs Committee

The Draft Law on Census was adopted on Thursday in first reading by the European Affairs Committee. The document regulates the issues of organisations, institutions in charge of the process, and questions on the census material. Deputy Justice Minister Agim Nuhiu said there would be columns concerning national and religious affiliation, adding that citizens abroad whose stay didn’t exceed one year would be covered. VMRO-DPMNE’s MPs criticised the European flag on the Draft Law. Also, they said there should be public debates. In response, SDSM said the legal framework was designed in line with UN and Eurostat standards. Alliance for Albanians believes that that though the census should be held, there are dilemmas about the process concerning he national and religious affiliation. The opposition will file amendments.
