Drin Ahmeti, nephew of DUI leader Ali Ahmeti, held a press conference on Monday at
which he clarified the circumstances under which he purchased the Soravia Shopping Centre
in Skopje. “I didn’t get 39% of the shares in Soravia because I am Ahmeti’s nephew, but
because of my good management in the PRE-VLA-KU company, which will own 51% of the
shares. They want me to manage Soravia so it doesn’t end up with debts of around one
million euros every year. The company I work for, and which VMRO-DPMNE mentions in
their allegations against me, has over 50 employees, majority of which ethnic Macedonians,
because capital does not discriminate. My uncle Ali Ahmeti, may God bless him, has been a
great motivation for me my entire life so far. If VMRO-DPMNE’s accusations against us
were supported, they would’ve reported the entire case to the Basic Public Prosecutor’s
Office, instead of engaging in a smear campaign against me or my uncle,” Ahmeti said.
PRE-VLA-KU owner Vladimir Pjetrogjokaj and the Austrian businessman Hanno Soravia
confirmed that the company already had a debt of more than 20 million euros because the
Soravia building in Skopje has been constructed from loans which the company has not yet
managed to pay out. Soravia, who kept 10% of the shares of the company, said that they
believe in the business potentials of Drin Ahmeti, adding that he was not aware of the
connection between him and Ali Ahmeti.
