EC: Decoupling of Skopje and Tiran in EU Accession Process Possible

Spokesperson of the European Commission (EC) Ana Pisonero said at an online press conference that decoupling of official Skopje and Tirana in the EU-accession process is still an option if the blockade from official Sofia against Skopje remains. “We want to hold the inter-governmental conferences with both official Skopje and Tirana. However, the council needs to approve the accession negotiation frameworks for both countries. If an agreement is not reached over North Macedonia, then we may take into consideration the decoupling option. If the member-states reach a conclusion that they approve start of accession talks with Albania only, then EC would not oppose that,” Pisonero said.
