EU Delegation’s Geer: Holding of Prague Meeting not Substitute for Enlargement

PM Dimitar Kovacevski and leaders of 43 other countries will in Prague participate in the first meeting of the European Political Community. The energy and economic crisis, peace and security in the context of the developments and Ukraine, and climate change will be the topics. Bilateral meetings are foreseen, too. According to the Head of the EU Delegation, Ambassador David Geer, the holding of the meeting is good news, but it is not a substitute for enlargement. His assessment is that the meeting will contribute towards joint dealing with the current challenges. Asked about the EU’s assistance for the Western Balkan countries to deal with the energy crisis in the context of the new package of sanctions against Russia, which is being prepared by the EU and which does not include exemption-derogation for the region due to Belgrade’s conduct towards Russia, Geer pointed out on Wednesday that all decisions being adopted and all measures being taken in the frames of the EU to deal with the energy crisis always included the Western Balkans because, currently, both the Union and the region were facing similar challenges.
