In a column for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, FM Nikola Dimtrov says that the recommendation for a start of accession negotiations represents acknowledgement of the big progress made by Macedonia. “Success stories are rare in Europe. We don’t have the luxury of ignoring them,” Dimitrov writes for the German newspaper. According to him, a positive decision to start negotiations will send a signal that the EU rewards brave, decisive and difficult steps towards reconciliation in the Balkans. On the other hand, the FM explains, a negative decision will send a signal of weakness towards the Balkans.
