Geer: Only You Decide Whether to Protect UNESCO Status of Ohrid Region

EU Ambassador David Geer said that it is up to the country and its institutions whether and how they will protect the UNESCO status of the heritage along the coast of Ohrid Lake. “Concerning the recommendations of UNESCO, there are two different visions about this location. The first vision is to preserve all cultural and natural heritage at this location, which may allow further development of tourism, and then there is the other vision in which you prioritise illegal objects and further constructions that may further damage and destroy the natural and cultural heritage in this region. It is up to you which vision you chose, i.e. whether you dedicate yourselves to protection of the heritage or to protection of the illegal constructions,” Geer said.
