Kovacevski: Unity Isn’t Achieved by Creating Hysteria over Sofia Talks

“Unity isn’t achieved by creating hysteria over the negotiations with Bulgaria,” PM Dimitar Kovacevski said on Monday in response to VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski’s call for national unification around state interests. Kovacevski doesn’t see sincerity in the call. In the PM’s view, there are two reasons for that – VMRO-DPMNE’s rejection of the invitation to participate in the working groups for Bulgaria and the Goce Delcev Draft-Declaration. Mickoski responded by saying that rationality and protection of national interests couldn’t be expected from “blind followers of Zaevism”. However, he stated that his party would be there if the ruling structure changed its mind. “We want to reflect an energy of unification when it comes to national interests. We can have differences over economic, education, healthcare, and agricultural issues. Yes, we have differences in this regard. But when it comes to the national interest, we for once expect SDSM to back and support the policies of unification,” he stressed, urging SDSM to support the Delcev Draft-Declaration.
