In parts of history textbooks in Bulgaria, the language of Macedonia and the language of Cyril and Methodius are treated as non-liberated Bulgarian territory and Old Bulgarian, respectively. Those are the main remarks of Macedonian historians arising from the meetings held so far of the Macedonia-Bulgaria Interdisciplinary Commission on Historical and Educational Issues. On the other hand, the Bulgarian team considers that a language of hostility towards Bulgaria is felt in Macedonia’s textbooks, while the interpretation of Samuil’s empire is problematic, too, Dragi Gjorgjiev, who heads the Macedonian team, explains. According to him, the Commission’s goal is to change what’s written in textbooks, not history. The activities will continue towards the end of the November, when the third meeting is scheduled to be held.
