Ministerial Council in Skopje on Tuesday Within Berlin Process Framework

In the house of Europe, the Western Balkans is a room that has neither electricity nor heating, and that is the reason why we are colder and in the dark, is how the Macedonian FM describes the situation in the region. On the second day of the Think Tank Forum organized in the framework of the Berlin Process, FM Nikola Dimitrov pointed out precisely and clearly that Macedonia’s poor situation has to end with positive decision in March. Everything else, he said, would definitely mean that the EU is closing its door. Although Western Balkan countries have not always shared enthusiasm for the reform agenda, the region must stay on the European path. Bulgarian FM Ekaterina Zakharieva used the participation at the Think Tank Forum to say that Bulgaria is one of the strongest supporters of the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries. “I really hope that in March there will be a decision to start negotiations with Macedonia and Albania. As for the new methodology, it is a good proposal by EC and although it has not yet been adopted, that fact should not be used as an argument to delay the start of negotiations”, stated the Bulgarian FM. The main event for the three-day forum is scheduled for Tuesday, when a meeting between foreign ministers will be held to mark the start of the joint presidency of the Berlin Process between Macedonia and Bulgaria for 2020.
