The Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in an interview for Financial Times, reiterated the support of the Greek government for integration of Macedonia in EU, and blamed France for obstructing Macedonia’s integration process. “I honestly hope that this error done by the EU will be corrected as soon as possible. My party “New Democracy” openly opposed the Prespa Agreement when we were in opposition, but I made a promise to respect and implement the agreement, and support the integration of our northern neighbours in NATO and EU. The decision of French President Emanuel Macron not only angered the leaders of the other EU member-state, among which Germany, but it also opened a window of opportunity for strengthening of the Russian influence in the Balkans, and by extension, possibilities for further destabilisations,” Mitsotakis said, adding that even though some of Macron’s concerns are justified, his final decision about Macedonia and Albania was counter-productive.
