Parliament Rejects Nikola Dimitrov’s Interpellation with 55 Votes

MPs with 53 votes in favour and 55 against, rejected the proposal of VMRO-DPMNE for interpellation of Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Dimitrov. VMRO-DPMNE MP Timco Mucunski, said that the Government, of which Dimitrov is a part, promised during the election campaign that Macedonia would formally start negotiations with the EU by the end of year or by the end of 2020, which did not happen. MP from the Alliance for Albanians Halil Snopce, said that European integration should be a continuous process and that the country should have good relations with neighbours. He pointed out that Dimitrov is not the only one responsible for not having a date for negotiations with the EU, but the entire government should be held accountable. After the speech of MP Snopce, the Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Nikola Dimitrov appeared, who said that it is always harmful when foreign policy is used for domestic political purposes. Dimitrov pointed out that not getting a date for negotiations in October or June has nothing to do with the reform condition at home. Referring to the facts, Dimitrov said that the Friendship Agreement with Sofia was assessed by European leaders and the United States as an inspiration for the entire region and a big step towards the EU for the country.
