Politico: Von Der Leyen Pro Abolition of Unanimity in EU Decisions

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in an interview with the Brussels edition of Politico that the European Union must be able to respond more quickly to geopolitical developments. “On foreign affairs, I am deeply convinced that this is not sustainable, that the European Union is unable to take a position due to a blockade of critical files,” von der Leyen said, acknowledging that a major change in the Union’s decision-making, even if only for foreign policy, will be difficult to achieve. The President of the Council of Ambassadors in North Macedonia, Muhamed Halili, believes that such a decision would be in favour of the country, decision-making will modernize the Union, and reforms in its institutions will move in the right direction.
