PPO to take Over SPO cases

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) has decided to take over the cases it will be handed over by the Special Prosecutor’s Office. As it was said in Friday’s press-release, the stand is based on the PPO’s constitutional position as the only state organ that has competence to prosecute perpetrators of acts of crime and other punishable crimes laid down with the law, the principle of legality of criminal prosecution, according to which the public prosecutor is bound to start criminal prosecution if evidence exists that a crime has been committed about which there is prosecution ex officio, as well as the obligation, in the name of society, to care for the criminal-legal system’s efficiency, respecting the principle of legal security of citizens as a fundamental value of the rule of law. Procedures over the cases will continue in relevant public prosecutor’s offices, the PPO added.
