Public Debate on PPO Draft Law Starts

One minute after the start of his address in the frames of the public debate on the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PPO) Draft Law, Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski had to stop it. Holding a banner, VMRO-DPMNE MPs asked him to show the letter sent to him by former Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva concerning the transfer of authorisations for cases. After the one-minute break given by the Chairperson of the Political System Committee, Aleksandar Kiracovski, the debate resumed. Professor Gordana Siljanovska Davkova stated that the text should be submitted also to the Venice Commission in order for it to give a legal opinion. Retired professor Vlado Kambovski said that one would be hard pushed to talk about reforms in the PPO considering it was at least 80 prosecutors short. Previously, Kiracovski had called for narrow political interests to be forgotten and for the law to be a result of a debate based on arguments. VMRO-DPMNE representatives said the party would present a stand once it heard the discussions of all experts that were part of the debate.
