SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE still Divided over Constitutional Changes

The government has lost its credibility and political legitimacy among the people because its main policy to adopt constitutional changes “under a Bulgarian dictate” has hit a wall, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said on Monday.

He added that the session of Parliament held on 18 August had confirmed that. As Mickoski pointed out, though 10 days have passed, there aren’t 80 MPs for the changes to be made. In response, SDSM said it, “together with citizens and the European bloc”, would do everything to overcome “Mickoski’s blockades”.

According to the ruling party, Mickoski is blocking the EU integration process because he doesn’t care about citizens. “He’s committed to blockades and destructions. He’s harming state and national interests,” SDSM noted.

Foreign Minister Bujar Osmani’s stand is that the constitutional changes process will end successfully in the weeks and months ahead. In an interview, he said that the process had started, adding that the decision had been welcomed by the US and EU.
