Simovski: Boycott of Census Ungrounded and Unnecessary

Director of the State Statistical Office of Macedonia (SSO) Apostol Simovski informed on Tuesday that concluding with 23 March 2021, a total number of 130,009 Macedonian citizens living abroad have registered for the Population census. Simovski also said that he is surprised with the calls for boycott of the census by certain individuals or associations, saying that such boycott may result with bad consequences over the state. “The Population census is a statistical operation in favour of all citizens of the country, and it is not conducted for the interests of the political parties but for those of the state and all citizens. Information about the population in the country is crucial for creation of policies for assisting the citizens. I really find the boycotting of the census unreasonable, and I also feel the necessity to remind that citizens refusing to take part in the census may face fines and misdemeanour charges,” Simovski said.
