Numerous state official and politicians in North Macedonia condemned the Russian military offensive over Ukraine that started on the night between Wednesday and Thursday. PM Dimitar Kovacevski said that the government follows the situation in Ukraine, and that it will take all necessary steps in line with its foreign policy to protect the best interest of its citizens. President Stevo Pendarovski said that the Russian actions are direct attack over the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and added that as a NATO member, North Macedonia joins the Alliance’s appeals for halt of the fire in Ukraine and resolution of the conflict through talks and diplomacy. PS Talat Xhaferi also appealed for dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, saying that the military crisis will result with serious economic consequences for both countries and globally. The Russian military attack over Ukraine was also condemned by Ministers Bujar Osmani, Slavjanka Petrovska and Bojan Maricic, as well as by VMRO-DPMNE Leader Hristijan Mickoski. Karpos mayor Stevce Jakimovski on the other hand, mocked the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. “When you choose a comedian for president, you eat grenades for breakfast. Instead calming tensions down, Zelenskyy addresses threats against Russia, so while Joe Biden and Boris Johnson come with their tanks, there goes Ukraine,” Jakimovski said during a talk show on TV24.
