Target-Fortress Case: Court of Appeals Decision yet to Arrive at Criminal Court

The decision of the Court of Appeals to annul the verdict in the Target-Fortress case and for it to be returned to consideration again still hasn’t arrived at the Criminal Court even though it was made 15 days ago. The Judicial Council has formed a working group that will head to the Court of Appeals to check how the decision was made. Some experts believe that every delay of the handover of the verdict increases the chances of the statute of limitations expiring. Among the defendants in the case are former secret police chief Saso Mijalkov, ex-PM Nikola Gruevski, former Interior Minister Gordana Jankuloska, Nadica Nikolic, Toni Jakimovski, Nikola Boskovski, and Goran Grujevski. The Association of Judges on Tuesday called for restraint and professional conduct by all stakeholders of the societal-political life, especially public office holders from all powers. At the same time, it urged the relevant judicial authorities to clarify the situation in question and timely present the findings publicly to reduce speculations.
