VMRO-DPMNE and Levica Urge Consensual Adoption of Citizenship Law

VMRO-DPMNE and Levica believe that the Citizenship Draft Law should be adopted consensually and that the experts’ opinion should be taken into consideration. In their view, otherwise, the law will be annulled by the Constitutional Court because it includes contested articles. The two parties are against support to the amendments agreed upon between the ruling structure and the opposition from the ethnic Albanian bloc. According to them, the citizens who have been without citizenship for 30 years have an institutional, not legal, problem, which cannot be resolved through a deal reached behind closed doors. On the other hand, SDSM, Alliance for Albanians, and Alternative consider that VMRO-DPMNE and Levica should have expressed their remarks earlier.
