At a press-conference on Monday, VMRO-DPMNE MP Brane Petrusevski said the Government, through the Operational-Technical Agency (OTA), had procured communication interception equipment for which there was no legal framework. “Over our indications and suspicions that the Government can illegally follow two million citizens, we have notified the Public Prosecutor’s Office, but there has still been no reaction,” he added.
According to Petrusevski, it’s been seen once again that the OTA is involved in a shady scheme and potential abuse of competences with regards to following citizens. “From the journalistic research of the Greek Inside Story and the Macedonian IRL, we’re finding out that the OTA purchased as early as 2020 spying software for tracking the internet communication of citizens, called ‘Predator’.
According to the research, the journalists claim that the spying software was procured by both the Macedonian OTA and the Greek service,” Petrusevski noted.
