Former Soccer Federation President Ilcho Gjorgjioski was arrested in a coordinated operation on Thursday morning. The Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation against 18 individuals and eight legal entities, including not only Gjorgjioski, but also his successor, Muamed Sejdini.
In the coordinated operation by the Office, the Interior Ministry, and the Financial Police Administration, a total of 12 people were detained, while five are at large. Detention and precautionary measures will be sought for ten and seven of them, respectively. Sejdini is already in detention in another case.
According to the investigation, Gjorgjioski, from 2015 to July 2018, together with the head of finance, misappropriated over 2 million euros. Sejdini, from July 2018 to October 2019, misappropriated an additional approximately 870 thousand euros.
The Prosecutor’s Office suspects that the money was extracted through payments to companies based on fictitious invoices, while the tracks of the spending were subsequently covered up through accounting manipulations.
