The Alliance for Albanians (AA) party wing led by Arben Taravari raised alarm over reported government plans to reorganize the Ministry of Interior’s local units, saying the move would harm the institutional status of Struga, Debar, and Kichevo.
Spokesperson Njomza Asani Shaqiri stated at a press conference that the Struga–Debar–Kichevo police unit is set to be downgraded to a second‑category branch, losing key operational powers, command structure, and autonomy, with authority transferred to Ohrid.
“Such changes would eliminate crucial leadership positions in majority‑Albanian towns, including police chiefs and crime division heads, undermining representation and local security. The reorganization violates constitutional principles of equality and fair representation, eroding trust between communities”, Asani Shaqiri said.
The party called on coalition partner VLEN to take responsibility and defend Albanian interests, warning that “silence is complicity”.
