AFET Passes Rapporteur Waitz’s Draft Report

Rapporteur and MEP Waitz’s draft report on North Macedonia was officially passed by the EP’s Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) on Wednesday. There were 43 votes in favor and 17 against.

Although over 400 amendments were submitted, during the brief procedure and without any debate among those present, only 11 compromise amendments, the contents of which are not yet public, and two amendments submitted by Bulgarian MEPs were accepted. It remains unknown whether the amendment by Waitz, which requested that the 2nd Protocol be clarified, is part of the compromise amendments.

Regarding amendments by Bulgarian MEPs that were passed, there is a call for North Macedonia to hold the next joint session between the Governments of North Macedonia and Bulgaria for the implementation of the Treaty Good-Neighborliness.
