On social media, DUI leader Ahmeti has said he considers the Hague court’s verdict against the four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), Hashim Thaci, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi, to be unjust. Thaci was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment, Veseli to 18 years, Selimi to 13 years, and Krasniqi to 25 years.
“I consider today’s decision regarding Hashim Thaci, Jakup Krasniqi, Kadri Veseli, and Rexhep Selimi to be unjust and deeply disappointing. In these difficult moments, I call for restraint and unity. We must not fall into any trap whose aim is to create tensions or divisions, or to tarnish the reputation of the liberation struggle of the people of Kosovo”, he said.
VLEN criticized the verdict, too, saying the sentences were harsh and unacceptable. After a long and contested process, the prominent figures of the liberation war remain far from their families and from Kosovo, it added.
