At DUI’s Congress, held on Saturday, Ahmeti was re-elected party leader. He described the Congress as a new stage in the party’s internal functioning and a significant moment for the country.
Ahmeti, who received the support from 737 delegates, presented demands concerning the so-called Badinter majority, i.e. he said the principle should be used in processes to elect the cabinet and within the Constitutional Court. The DUI leader also proposed a new, deeper, stage of decentralization and local self-government.
Ahmeti also announced a new “national agreement on progress” and urged full vetting under international supervision for all public office holders since 1991.
The Congress also saw the passage of four resolutions as a four-year vision for progress. They concern the strengthening of the country’s unitary character, rule of law, independent judiciary and restoring trust in institutions, national agreement on progress and sustainable development of the country, and European integration.
