On Tuesday, PM Hristijan Mickoski said the only way to reduce air pollution was a change to the heating systems of homes from November to March, that is, for less fossil and more eco-friendly fuels, including central heating, to be used.
“For that to happen, gas-fired plants should be built. We’re working on that. One of the investors is interested in building such plants. However, that, them starting to function, will take at least 2-3 years”, he stated, adding that building hot water pipelines would perhaps take 5-6 years.
According to him, the previous cabinet did nothing to deal with the problem.
“However, now, political rodents are trying to score political points, in their rodent manner, but they will not succeed”, the PM underlined.
Also on Tuesday, VLEN criticised DUI over the same matter.
“The polluted air and destroyed environment are a result of the former government’s responsibility, which treated the Environment Ministry as an irrelevant institution”, the coalition said. On Tuesday, too, Skopje was among the most polluted cities globally.
