Air Pollution Project Announced

In the Municipalities of Kavadarci, Strumica, Gostivar, Struga, and Kumanovo, most modern equipment and methodology will be used to identify ambient air pollution sources.

For the first time in the country, there will also be air measuring indoors. The research, which will be carried out by Goce Delcev University and the AMBICON laboratory, will take place also at several schools and kindergartens.

The activities will focus not only on PM particles, but also on the presence of epidemiological, bacterial, and organic components, it was pointed out at the press-conference on Wednesday. The project is the second stage of the one for dealing with air pollution, funded by Sweden, implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Environment Ministry, with strengthened measures against pollution Swedish Ambassador Ami Larsson Jain, said the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) continued to help North Macedonia deal with challenges with regards to environmental protection, with special focus on the air pollution problem and waste management.

The UNDP Resident Representative, Armen Grigoryan, stated that through the studies concerning sources of pollution, local authorities in the five cities would know with certainty what polluted air in their respective municipalities.
