Arson Attempt Case: Two Placed in Detention and Charged with Terrorism

The Interior Ministry has cleared up the case concerning the April 12 arson attempt on Jewish community building and synagogue in Skopje. The Sector for Combating Terrorism, Violent Extremism, and Radicalism and the Agency for National Security worked on the matter.

Following directives from the Prosecutor’s Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption, searches were conducted at 13 locations in Skopje. Seven individuals were detained. Two have been placed in detention and charged with terrorism.

The Agency has said that the two people responsible for the attempt, who are from Skopje, had a logistical network and belonged to a radical group ideologically close to the Islamic State group.

The Agency gathered information and identified individuals, the most likely perpetrators and their logistical network, as well as several properties in Skopje, which, according to the institution’s indications, are ideologically connected as part of a radical group.
