Attorney Explains Reasons for Rustemi’s Decision to Resign as PE Head

Sabahudin Rustemi has resigned as Acting Director of the Skopje-based Komunalna Higiena (Communal Hygiene) PE citing moral reasons, his attorney, Asmir Alispahic, said after his client and Aki Saiti, who heads PE’s Waste Management Sector, had each been issued a 30-day detention measure by the Criminal Court.

As he explained, Rustemi hasn’t resigned because he feels responsible for the waste situation in the capital, but rather for investigation-related reasons.

“His resignation followed advice and coordination with us, as defenders. It’s an act that will enable the investigation to be carried out unimpededly for us to prove that he has no link and, in terms of influencing, he has neither influenced nor will obstruct any carrying out of the investigation”, the attorney stressed.

The defence also pointed out it had a lot of evidence that would prove that Rustemi had taken action to secure necessary mechanisations, request greater resources and employment, which wouldn’t be approved by the PE’s Managing Board.
