Attorney Says Markovski Went to Serbia for Business

Bitola businessperson Borche Markovski’s attorney, Marjan Nikoloski, has told Telma his client is not fleeing the country, but rather has gone to Serbia due to business obligations related to a company he owns in that country.

Markovski, who is the Honorary Consul of Belarus in North Macedonia, left the country on Wednesday after the Basic Court in Struga had returned his passport, which had previously been confiscated as a precautionary measure. Markovski is one of the suspects in the case concerning the around 1.7-million-euro tender to relocate plant stations from Oslomej to the Bitola plant.

According to his attorney, Markovski has urgent business meetings in Serbia and plans to return to North Macedonia on Saturday. To secure the return of his travel document, Markovski submitted a guarantee worth five million euros in real estate.

The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Bitola ordered that a positive opinion be issued for returning the passport. As justification for that decision, it was explained, inter alia, that the provided guarantee reduced the flight risk.
