Bar Chamber Responds to Prosecutor-General Kocevski’s Letter

The Bar Chamber has responded to Prosecutor-General Ljupco Kocevski’s letter in which he reacted to comments by attorneys related to the charge in the Kocani fire. On Monday, it said his allegations were unfounded and represented direct interference in the independence of their activity.

“It’s not true attorneys haven’t been familiar with the charge and evidence. They’ve been available since as early as the filing of the indictment bill. Attorneys have the right to freedom of expression to inform the public on procedures of public interest”, the Chamber pointed out.

So far, there’ve been no remarks by courts about harming of their reputation, while it was the Public Prosecutor’s Office, not attorneys, who carried out the entire investigative process, it was added.

Monday also saw parents of the children killed in the nightclub fire block, from 3:15 pm to 4:15 pm, Stevo Teodosievski Boulevard in Kocani.

They said they would adhere to their promise to block the key crossroads in the city until the court process started. According to them, their revolt is a result of statements by attorneys of defendants who have said the trial itself could last up to 15 years.
