The Bosniak Democratic Union (BDS) on Tuesday filed criminal charges with the relevant authorities against Dalibor Kitanovic, director of the Agency for the Realization of the Rights of Communities, alleging that his public activities glorified Ratko Mladic, a convicted war criminal.
“We expect such an institution and its leadership to respect all communities, their dignity, and the victims of war crimes”, BDS said.
The party called on authorities to review the complaint in accordance with the law, establish the relevant facts, and take appropriate measures. BDS said it would continue using legal and institutional mechanisms to defend victims’ dignity, truth, and accountability, stressing that “war crimes must not be subject to glorification”.
PM Mickoski in meantime said that Kitanovic apologized and will not be dismissed.
“I am not informed that this constitutes a criminal offense, but what he said and what the government has as its position are different”, Mickoski said.
Asked whether Kitanovic would face consequences for praising Mladic, Mickoski said that “we should not seek criminal responsibility for something he realized was wrong”.
