On Tuesday, after her AFET address, Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos faced a series of questions by Bulgarian MEPs, the majority of whom asked her to refer to the North Macedonia dispute as a European, not bilateral, issue.
There Is Such a People MEP Ivaylo Valchev revealed that he was the one behind the amendment to Rapporteur Thomas Waitz’s draft report, requesting that the Macedonian identity be designated as a “present” one. Also, he stated that he was still in a state of mild shock because the details had leaked.
In response, Kos stated that since the EC didn’t work with the document, she didn’t know how EP details had leaked to North Macedonia.
