At her meeting with CoE Secretary General Alain Berset, Bulgarian President Iotova raised the case of Iva Mihajlova, a young woman who holds dual citizenship of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, who is charged with causing a fatal traffic accident and against whom legal proceedings are underway in Kochani.
She said that though Bulgaria did not wish to interfere in the judicial proceedings in North Macedonia, she insisted that Mihajlova be granted access to necessary medical treatment, “taking into account her serious health complications”.
According to Iotova, Bulgarian authorities offered two options — that Mihajlova be treated in Bulgaria, or that a Bulgarian medical team visit North Macedonia to conduct a consultation. She emphasized that neither of the offered options was accepted.
