Campaign for Second Round of Local Elections Continues

On Monday, VMRO-DPMNE expressed confidence its Skopje mayoral candidate, Orce Gjorgjievski (who currently serves as Kisela Voda Mayor), would win the second round of the local elections.

“The support VMRO-DPMNE and Gjorgjievski received, as early as the first round, from 91,000 votes represents great honour, but also a great obligation. That trust is proof citizens recognise the effort, results, and concrete projects implemented at a local level in Kisela Voda, as well as the support that the VMRO-DPMNE-led government has provided in the last 16 months for developing municipalities throughout the country”, it said.

In an interview with the MKD.MK, Gjorgjievski himself stated that his work as Kisela Voda had spoken volumes.

“I’ve already shown I can implement a programme. In Kisela Voda, despite all inherited debts and challenges, I’ve implemented almost everything promised by me to my fellow citizens. I’ve even implemented additional projects proposed by them during the term. I will bring that continuity of work, efficiency, and partnership with citizens also to the City of Skopje. When I promise, I implement. I wouldn’t be offering this programme if I didn’t know how to implement it”, he underlined.

His opponent in the second round of the mayoral race in the capital, Levica’s Amar Mecinovic, stated that he would continue his positive and proactive campaign even though conditions and circumstances with regards to the contest were not equal.

“The second round is not a competition between two candidates, but rather a choice between the old and the new, for a different Skopje,” he underlined, adding that vanity shouldn’t be part of the work of mayors at all.

In Krusevo, SDSM leader Venko Filipce called on citizens to support his party’s candidate, Tome Hristoski, for another term because, as he said, he’s shown what it means to work in the interest of all citizens. Despite its threats, blackmails, and bribery, VMRO-DPMNE, he added, will not be able to annul the obvious will of citizens that want another term of Hristoski and his team.

In Centar, SDSM’s Goran Gerasimovski, who’s running for a second term, stated that among measures in his programme were ones for a new nursing home, a new kindergarten, two indoor pools, multi-storey car parks, and increased subsidies and free-of-charge field trips and meals for students.

His opponent in the second round, ZNAM’s Miroslav Labudovic, presented a measure for financial and social support of pensioners.

“Each pensioner that doesn’t receive the average pension level in the country will get financial support of 7,000 denars from Centar Municipality, while each new pensioner in Centar will get financial support of 12,000 denars”, he noted.
