VMRO-DPMNE’s Skopje mayoral candidate, Orce Gjorgjievski, is so confident that he will win the mayoral race that he’s already met the future Council members of his party that will have the majority.
After their discussion on Wednesday about what the first activities of his term would be, Gjorgjievski stated that he would nonetheless cooperate with all Council members, including opposition ones. Dame Dimitrovski, the carrier of VMRO-DPMNE’s list of candidates, too, opened doors to cooperation.
When it comes to his opponent in the second round of the Skopje mayoral race, Amar Mecinovic, Gjorgjievski stated that he was not worried about potential mutual support between Levica, DUI, and SDSM. Mecinovic responded to Gjorgjievski’s accusations, that the former had had support from DUI in the first round and that his call for support from SDSM had made the “coalition” public, by describing it as a conspiracy theory.
“The government’s candidate has met VLEN and received its support, whereas I have been meeting Skopje and we will continue to meet the people of Skopje”, he stressed.
Also on Wednesday, Kanal 5 reported that both Gjorgjievski and Mecinovic had accepted the invitation to a televised debate. It will be held on Tuesday, at 6:30 pm.
When it comes to VLEN, it has said that it will nonetheless not call on its members and sympathisers to support DUI’s candidate in the Kicevo mayoral race, Fatmir Dehari.
“We don’t have their votes in our pockets to be able to take them out as needed. Also, we’ve already called on Dehari to leave the election race over the compromising materials that deprive him of every moral right to hold public office” it stated.
VLEN added that DUI leader Ali Ahmeti hadn’t found the courage to withdraw Dehari from the race.
“We remain consistent with our principles and stands: There’s no negotiations on public morality”, it underlined.
VMRO-DPMNE, on its part, has called for unification around values, not around nationalistic topics. In the second round of the Kicevo mayoral race, Dehari will face exactly the ruling party’s candidate, Aleksandar Jovanovski.
In Kumanovo, ZNAM leader Maksim Dimitrievski, who’s running for a new term as Mayor, said he’d met Izet Mexhiti and that VLEN would support him in the second round of the mayoral race, where his opponent was independent candidate Goran Stojkovski (aka Diro).
