Charge Filed by ESM against Ex-members of Board and Former Officials

ESM has filed a charge before the Financial Police Administration and Interior Ministry against members who were part of the composition of the previous two Managing and Supervisory Boards, as well as against senior officials part of the previous cabinet over a series of decisions related to the lease of gas capacity in the frames of the Alexandroupolis terminal, explaining that it cannot be used.

That information was presented at a briefing on Monday at the Energy Ministry attended by the heads of ESM, MEPSO, and MEMO. However, it will be known in the coming period whether the charge will be accepted.

“According to Article 353 of the Criminal Code, they would act unscrupulously and wouldn’t protect the interest of the company and state. Hitherto damage exceeds five million euros”, ESM’s head, Lazo Uzuncev noted.

The damage, it was explained, concerns a lease of a cross-border capacity and one within the LNG terminal. Telma has reported that SDSM MP Fatmir Bytyqi, in the capacity of ex-Deputy PM for Economic Affairs, has been covered by the charge. However, he told the TV station that he was not familiar with that.

Nonetheless, he added that the entire documentation on the signing of the deal was at the Government and ESM, stressing that everybody could check it.

Previously, ESM had said that it, as a company, paid for the lease for the gas capacity that couldn’t be used over 250,000 euros on a monthly basis. Members of the previous government, which signed the deal, explained at that time that it would enable gas supply from multiple sources in the future.
