Constitutional Court Forms Two Cases over Safe City Project

The Constitutional Court has accepted the two initiatives challenging the constitutionality of the Safe City system. One is filed by the Alliance for Albanians MPs Ziadin Sela, Ilire Dauti, and Elmi Aziri, while the other is filed by a citizen, an Ili Pachku.

The decision has resulted in the formation of two separate cases, where certain legal changes are contested, especially with regards to the notification method for traffic offences, the territorial implementation of the system, and the use of languages.

According to the Interior Ministry, in the first stage, the system will be in use at locations where there is an increased level of traffic risks, while it’s foreseen for the project to be expanded to cover the whole territory of the country over the course of the year.
