Though last week saw draft-changes to the Electoral Code adopted at the Political System Committee level, they weren’t put up for a vote at Tuesday’s session of the legislative house because there were not enough MPs for a Badinter majority to be secured.
The submitter of the text, VMRO-DPMNE Parliamentary Group Coordinator Nikola Micevski, stated again that the draft-changes aimed to give a fair chance to independent candidates.
According to DUI, however, since the proposal was supported in the first process without political consensus, there must be a debate on the matter following a withdrawal of the text.
Citizens’ associations, too, have continued to criticise the draft-text, supported by VMRO-DPMNE, SDSM, ZNAM, and VLEN, saying the opposition and ruling majority hadn’t consulted them and violated the Constitutional Court’s decision.
