Justice Minister Filkov says the draft version of the Criminal Code is being finalized, adding that once the document is completed, it will be submitted within a procedure at the Government.
He explains that the Ministry’s goal is clear: a new, modern, and codified Code that will incorporate all relevant international standards and instruments, strengthen legal security of citizens, and ensuring judges, prosecutors, and attorneys have a clear and applicable law without loose ends and contradictions.
Regarding the possibility of the Constitutional Court making a decision on the merits concerning the 2023 Criminal Code changes if the remarks are not solved through the announced text, Filkov points out that though that institution’s decisions are final, attention must be paid in terms of statements and stands in order for the public not to get the impression that they are used for daily politicking.
