Draft-Resolution: New Round of Allegations between VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM

VMRO-DPMNE and SDSM have continued to trade accusations over North Macedonia’s EU path and the opposition party’s draft-resolution.

On Friday, the ruling party’s leader, PM Hristijan Mickoski, again stated that there would be no constitutional changes without guarantees. He expects robust action by Brussels towards Sofia for guarantees to be received that there will be no new conditions on the EU integration road, as well as implementation of verdicts by the European Court of Human Rights concerning Macedonians in Bulgaria.

Regarding SDSM’s draft-resolution, the PM again stated that there were historical inaccuracies in the text and that he would voice a stand on it after the local elections.

The following day, at the promotion of his party’s mayoral candidates, Mickoski asked why SDSM had presented a resolution imposing the topic of constitutional changes before the elections.

“These are attempts by them to trick the Macedonian people through red lines they themselves don’t respect”, he emphasised.

On the other hand, SDSM leader Venko Filipce stated that the government was stopping the EU path and rejecting its draft-resolution for national consensus over the matter.

“Three days ago, they rejected one of the most patriotic documents ever seen on our political scene, that is, the draft-resolution for national consensus, common red lines, and a timeframe for a start of the opening of chapters and proceeding with the negotiations with the EU”, he explained.

The draft-resolution’s already been sent to other parties. Filipce stated that he was ready for talks also on a potentially new, VMRO-DPMNE-proposed, resolution.

However, SDSM’s text was criticised by President Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, too.

“I don’t see there any word related to guarantees and certainty”, she noted.
