DUI: Albanian People in North Macedonia under Attack by Institutions

“Today, the Albanian people in this country is under attack by institutions of its own country that are fully captured by the Government’s political and ethnocentrist interests”, DUI said on Saturday regarding the new arrests in the case concerning the Kocani fire.

According to Ali Ahmeti’s party, PM Hristijan Mickoski, Interior Minister Pance Toskovski, and Prosecutor-General Ljupco Kocevski, to protect themselves and “their own people”, have, in a one-sided fashion, directed the investigation against ethnic Albanians “who were part of the system’s institutions in any manner and at any moment”.

“We clearly state that today, a one-sided and unjust aggression has been declared against Albanians, regardless of whether it’s about DUI, Albanian parties within the Government or Albanians in general. This is not justice. This is retaliation for including Albanians in institutional flows. DUI will take all necessary measures to prevent the continuation of this attack and to ensure justice for the Albanian people in this country”, it was added in the press-release.

In response, VMRO-DPMNE said DUI was running away from accountability for the crime by hiding behind the ethnic umbrella.

“Today, DUI is again trying to avoid accountability through cheap ethnic manipulation attempts”, the ruling party stated.

However, in another press-release, DUI said it was calling on institutions not to work “according to the law of” PM Hristijan Mickoski, to conduct a “thorough and transparent” investigation, and to focus on solving “legitimate demands” by all impacted by the tragedy.

Ahmeti’s party also stated that the PM should stop the “selective” approach and arrests without appropriate evidence and free those “detained illegally, without evidence material or appropriate proceedings”.
