DUI Presidency Meeting: Ahmeti Leaving neither Politics nor Party Helm

On Friday, DUI’s Central Presidency held a meeting, saying its conclusion was that early parliamentary elections were needed.

Ali Ahemeti’s party stressed it was the winner in the first round of the local elections, considering the number of votes it had won in both mayoral races and ones for council seats. Ahmeti denied some media reports he would leave politics.

He added that he wouldn’t leave the position of leader because, as he stressed, he hasn’t suffered an election defeat in his around 25-year-long political career.

“DUI’s the winner at a national level”, the party added.

However, VLEN stated in response to DUI’s session that before demanding early elections, Ahmeti should ask himself whether he would be able to face the free vote of ethnic Albanians that were no longer afraid of him.

“It’s absurd for Ahmeti to portray himself as the election winner”, it noted.

Regarding the Kicevo mayoral race, VLEN’s Bilall Kasami stated that his party’s stand was that voters should decide on their own who they would support.

In the first round, VLEN and DUI won five and three mayoral races, respectively. In the second round, they would face each other in the second race of the mayoral races in Tetovo, Gostivar, and Bogovinje.
