On Monday, DUI Vice President Arber Ademi held a new press-conference, saying his party would in the coming days present complete documentation and evidence about who, and how, had allowed the Kocani nightclub fire to happen. DUI will also file a charge before the Prosecutor’s Office because, as Ademi underlined, there has to be accountability.
“There has to be accountability. In this case, it’s notorious that in March 2024, the then-Economy Minister, Kreshnik Bekteshi, didn’t allow a licence to be issued to that facility because the facility didn’t meet conditions. There is no licence in the Ministry’s registry, nor did the administration draw up such a licence in 2024, whereas when it comes to why the facility had operated without a licence until March 2025, the answer has to be looked for at the place where that has to be done and where accountability has to be gotten for this tragedy”, the DUI Vice-President noted.
According to him, Ljupco Papazov, who has resigned as Kocani Mayor over the tragedy, knew and had the duty to know that the company based in Kocani, MMMM Kafe, didn’t have a licence and didn’t meet conditions to carry out that activity in his Municipality.
DUI believes that in an attempt to save its staff from accountability, primarily with regards to Papazov and those part of the Interior Ministry’s office in Kocani, which had gone to the nightclub “every day” before the fire, the VMRO-DPMNE-led cabinet is using fabrications to turn the anger into demanding of accountability where accountability is non-existent.
