DUI’s Ajdari: Safe City System Has Many Shortcomings

According to DUI, though the Safe City system is a good initiative when it comes to increasing traffic safety, it has many shortcomings, while a lot of complaints have come from citizens too.

The party’s Parliamentary Group Coordinator, Rina Ajdari, says there’s been no real need for the shortened procedure to be used over the Bill, stressing a public debate is necessary.

DUI considers that the content touches upon sensitive issues related to human rights, equality from a language standpoint, and misdemeanor accountability.

Ajdari adds that “what’s also concerning” is the rejection of amendments aiming at advancing alignment with the Constitution, protection of human rights, and improvement of the applicability of the text in practice, which reduces the possibility of reaching broader consensus.

In her view, the Bill can be part of broader consensus between parties on multiple law-related matters stuck in Parliament due to a lack of Badinter majority. In that regard, Ajdari points to the procedure to elect an Ombudsperson, too, pointing out that the problem can be solved at the leaders’ meeting.
