Enlargement Commissioner Kos Visits Skopje

During her visit to Skopje on Wednesday, Enlargement Commissioner Kos praised North Macedonia’s reform process. However, she reiterated that if the constitutional changes were not made, progress would remain limited.

PM Mickoski promised there would be a strong commitment to reforms, saying also he expected Brussels to enable a fair accession process, as had been the case with all candidates prior.

The grace period for reform implementation has been extended until July 15. Only the draft Electoral Code is an issue. During the Skopje visit, Commissioner Kos asked for parties to reach a consensus. Mickoski, regarding that matter, again stated that his party, VMRO-DPMNE, was ready to accept all constructive proposals of the opposition.

When it comes to the constitutional changes issue, the Commissioner stated that there was no way for guarantees to be provided for North Macedonia, adding that for a solution to be found, trust had to be built between Skopje and Sofia.
