Escobar Confident and EU Path will Continue, Regardless of Elections

At an online press briefing on Wednesday, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Gabriel Escobar, who’s also the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, said he was confident and hopeful that regardless of the elections in North Macedonia, the EU path would continue.

Escobar will be departing the job this month.

“One of the things that we are very happy to have accomplished is that we, that several countries in the Western Balkans are solidly on a path to Euro-Atlantic integration, particularly those NATO members, Albania, North Macedonia, and Montenegro, who are fully engaged on the whole process of joining the European Union.  I’m confident and I’m hopeful that regardless of the elections in North Macedonia that that path to Europe will continue,” he stressed.
