Europe Day and Victory over Fascism Day Marked

On Saturday, Europe Day (May 9), was marked with inspiring messages about North Macedonia’s European future, but there were also political accusations.

At the central ceremony, held in the yard of the Government’s building in Skopje, EU Ambassador Rokas said that May 9 was a day when the strategic importance of enlargement had to be underlined to ensure long-term peace, prosperity, and security on the continent, but also geopolitical resilience, enhanced energy independence, and the strengthening of common European values.

“And we know that together with the help of all of you and with the ongoing reforms, we will manage to do this decisive step forward to bring the country where it belongs, in the European Union family”, he stressed.

PM Mickoski said European integration was the “only path and future of Macedonia”, but the solidarity, values, and principles upon which the EU was built, as an idea for unification upon the ruins of WWII, didn’t not apply to the country as well. Without directly referring to SDSM, he also levelled criticism at that party as well.

On the other hand, SDSM leader Filipche said the country was led by an organized criminal group that wanted the state to be in isolation and a blind spot of Europe, without implementing reforms.
