EU’s Showing Its Solidarity over Kocani Nightclub Fire, Says EC Spokesperson

The EU’s showing its solidarity over the Kocani nightclub fire and has responded to North Macedonia’s request to activate the Civil Protection Mechanism, EC Spokesperson Eva Hrncirova said on Monday.

“We reacted immediately and offered the evacuation of patients with severe burns. Nine EU countries, Croatia, Greece, Romania, Slovenia, Sweden, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, and Norway, immediately offered assistance, while additional assistance could follow too. Several patients have already been transported to Hungary with support from Luxembourg, while others have been transferred to Lithuania with support from Romania. Now, we’re coordinating future medical education to other countries and offering treatment”, she stated, extending condolences over the deaths.

The same day, Croatian PM Andrej Plenkovic and the country’s Health Minister, Irena Hristic, said four patients injured in the fire would arrive at the Traumatology Clinic in the capital of Zagreb on Wednesday (March 19).

In Belgrade, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic visited patients injured in the fire receiving treatment in the Serbian capital.
